Layal Sakr is a lawyer, partner and legal advisor at Beyond Group.

Layal founded and runs her own law practice specializing in human rights as well as commercial law and has helped found numerous civil and commercial companies, nongovernmental organizations and non-for-profit organizations. Through her practice, Layal focuses on affairs and capital markets, due to her interest in understanding economics as a major component of injustice, a worldview that informs much of her work. She is a firm believer that a rights-based approach in amending and applying laws would enhance equity and fight corruption.

Layal has more than 15 years of experience with a focus on human rights and the protection of marginalized groups. She has worked with multiple local and international organizations to develop public policies, advocate for legal reforms, and to implement projects and activities aiming at addressing all forms of discrimination against and marginalization of vulnerable groups.

Layal established SEEDS For Legal Initiatives in 2016, a legal clinic with a mission to raise awareness on legal rights and advocate for legal reform through capacity building programs, communication campaigns and law and policy drafts. The initiative leverages its platforms to provide access to free representation, legal knowledge and advocate for legal reform. Through SEEDS, Layal has facilitated various workshops and trainings on freedom of expression, sexual harassment, LGBT rights and other issues.

Layal holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Law from Beirut’s Saint Joseph-University.
