Building Bridges Between The Private Sector and Peacebuilding Initiatives in Lebanon
This research was conducted by Beyond Group (previously Beyond Reform and Development) as part of a 12-month project entitled Peace Pioneers, funded by the Swiss Embassy in Lebanon and implemented by Search for Common Ground (Search). Peace Pioneers is an initiative aimed at identifying a common ground between the private sector and peace-building players from the not-for-profit sector in Lebanon, and encouraging successful partnerships between them in order to strengthen long-term peace-building in the country.
The research as a whole aims at two long-term outcomes that will be achieved through the Peace Pioneers project. First, it aims to understand key players in the private sector and ways through which they contribute or could contribute to peace-building in Lebanon. Second, it will help answer to the project objective to encourage better working relations and partnerships between the private sector actors and peace-building CSOs in Lebanon, based on shared values.
It therefore uses qualitative data from non-governmental and private institutions in order to understand their perception of peace-building, characteristics of existing partnerships, potential partnerships opportunities in Lebanon, and barriers to the implementation of successful partnerships.
The analysis and recommendations are meant to provide guidelines on best practices and the way forward for successful partnerships between the two sectors. They are addressed towards the donors and implementing agencies as well as their partners, for more impactful present and future programming. The results of this study will also be addressed towards the peace-building community and the private sector in Lebanon to further engage them towards sustainable peace in the country.
